Twitter’s policy outlined the distinction between the term and “state-affiliated media,” claiming the latter lacks editorial independence and is subject to government control. The BBC is a “government-funded media,” meaning that it receives funding from the government but maintains editorial freedom. By the way, Twitter’s policy section listed NPR, a media organisation based in the United States, as a government-funded outlet.
