Blocking of RT France enrages Russia, it vows to hit back

After learning that the bank accounts of RT France, the French arm of Russia’s state broadcaster, had been frozen, an enraged Russia declared that it would retaliate against French media.

Moscow to ‘retaliate’ after bank accounts of RT France were frozen

Anonymous Russian Foreign Ministry source was quoted as saying:
“The blocking of RT France accounts will lead to retaliatory measures against the French media in Russia,”

Unions in France that were already barred from broadcasting in the country claimed that their accounts had been frozen and that the measures were part of a campaign to terrorise Russian journalists.

Assets frozen in compliance with European Union’s Directive

The French finance ministry stated that the freezing of the chain’s assets was an initiative in accordance with European Union sanctions, not a Paris initiative.

According to the ministry, unlike the initial sanctions imposed after Moscow launched its Ukraine offensive, new EU measures enacted in December provided for a “asset freeze” of targeted entities.

A source stated:

“ANO TV Novosti, a parent company holding 100 percent of RT France”
It should be noted that RT was blocked in the majority of Western countries after Moscow sent troops to Ukraine in France last year.
