Elon Musk: After promising to lift the suspension imposed following the violence in the Capitol, Twitter founder Elon Musk published a poll on the social media platform asking users whether the account of former US President Donald Trump should be restored.
With 18 hours remaining, the poll has received over 6 million votes, with around 54.6% of participants choosing to vote in favour.

“Vox Populi, Vox Dei”
In another tweet, Musk used the Latin phrase “Vox Populi, Vox Dei,” which roughly translates to “the voice of the people is the voice of God.”
On Friday, Musk indicated that the decision to reinstate Trump’s account had not yet been taken and that other contentious accounts that had been suspended or banned, such as Kathy Griffin and the satirical website Babylon Bee, have now been allowed to run again on Twitter.
The poll was released a few months after Elon Musk declared he would lift the Trump ban on Twitter.
Donald Trump, a former US president, requested on Monday that his lawsuit against Twitter, which was dismissed permanently after his supporters invaded the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, be reopened by an appeals court.
Earlier that year, as the US Capitol was getting ready to certify Democrat Joe Biden’s victory, Trump supporters rushed the building and Twitter said that it had permanently disabled Trump’s account “because to the potential of additional incitement of violence.”

‘Freedom of speech, but not freedom of reach‘
After receiving a “ultimatum” to commit to a “hardcore” work environment, Elon on Friday announced a new content filtering policy and restored several accounts.
The billionaire pointed out that “hate tweets” will be severely deboosted in a series of tweets, asserting that the new Twitter policy is one of freedom of speech rather than freedom of reach. As a result, Twitter will reduce the number of people who encounter “hate speech” and the number of advertisements that show alongside it.
“Hateful or negative tweets will be max deboosted and demonetized, so Twitter won’t get any advertising or other income from them. The tweet won’t be found unless you actively look for it, which is identical to how you would search the rest of the Internet “Musk stated, emphasising that this only applies to the one tweet in question and not the entire account.
