The suspect was injured by another police officer following the stabbing, according to Eric Van der Sypt of the federal prosecutor’s office, who spoke to The Associated Press.
Investigators believe the attack occurred in a “terrorist context,” Van der Sypt stated. According to the prosecutor’s office, the investigation was taken over due to “a suspicion of a terror attack.”
According to police, who were quoted by the publication Le Soir, “one of our patrols was attacked by a man armed with a knife.” “The two police officers then requested more help. To stop the assault, an officer from another patrol deployed his gun.
Police noted, “The two injured detectives and the assailant were taken to hospital.”
Le Soir claimed that one of the officers was killed by his injuries after being stabbed in the neck.
The suspect reportedly went to a police station Thursday morning and threatened to kill an officer, according to the publication Het Laatste Nieuws. In a Facebook post, the ACV police trade union claimed to have knowledge that someone had called the police earlier in the day and threatened an attack.

It further stated that he was not detained by law enforcement.
The assault took at around 7:15 p.m., and the attacker reportedly yelled “Allahu Akbar,” which is Arabic for “God is magnificent.”
The family and relatives of the deceased officer received a message of sympathy from Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo.
He remarked, “Our police officers risk their lives every day to ensure the safety of our citizens. Today’s tragedy demonstrates this once again.”
The response to the incident was being coordinated, according to Interior Minister Annelies Verlinden, with the help of the police commissioner, the security agencies, and the mayor of Brussels. She declared that “Such violence against our people is unacceptable.”
In the previous ten years, Belgium has had a number of terror incidents, including 32 fatal suicide bombers and hundreds of injuries in the airport and subway system of Brussels in 2016.
