Pakistan: A suicide bomber detonated a huge explosion in Pakistan‘s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday, leaving at least 44 people dead. The event happened during a Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl (JUI-F)-sponsored gathering in the Bajaur district. The explosion’s exact moment was captured on a video that has gone viral. Chanting rallying cries for their leader, the crowd. ‘Hazrat Maulana Abdul Rashid Sahab… Zindabad, Zindabad!’, the crowd cheered. According to the video, this is when the explosion happened. A Suicide Attack Strikes JUI-F Gathering
Near the Afghan border is the town of Khar. According to Dawn, the meeting was attended by more than 400 JUI-F members and supporters. “It was a suicide attack, with the bomber detonating himself in close proximity to the stage,” Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Minister Riaz Anwar told news agency AFP. A few videos also showed crowds assembling at the blast site as ambulances arrived to transport the injured persons to hospitals.
JUI-F Workers’ Conference Rocked by Fatal Explosion
In Khar, the capital of the Bajaur tribal area, the explosion happened at the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) workers’ conference at 4 p.m. According to police reports, the bomb left around 100 people injured. One of the worst blasts in recent memory, according to Saad Khan, the district emergency officer for the Bajaur region, Maulana Ziaullah Jan, the JUI-F’s local leader, also perished in the explosion.
