China: President Xi Jinping declared China’s complete sovereignty over Hong Kong, transforming it from anarchy to governance, at the start of a significant meeting of the Chinese Communist Party. He also denounced what he called Taiwanese involvement.

- Nearly 2,300 delegates attending the once every five years Communist Party conference in Beijing’s Great Hall of the People, where Xi Jinping is expected to be elected to a third term, greeted him with loud ovation as he entered the stage.
