China iPhone production to halt Workers flee due to coronavirus, Company offers attractive bonus to employees

China: After a Covid outbreak forced a huge number of employees to leave the building, the largest iPhone manufacturing facility in the world in central China informed staff on Tuesday that it would increase their incentives if they stayed.

China is the last major economy to be dedicated to a zero-Covid approach, continuing with sudden lockdowns, extensive testing, and protracted quarantines in an effort to contain spreading outbreaks.

But new variations have put local authorities’ capacity to put down flare-ups faster than they can spread to the test, leaving much of the nation living under a constantly shifting mosaic of Covid limits.

Foxconn, a Taiwanese technology firm, has had its Zhengzhou facility on lockdown since the middle of October, claiming that it is testing its workers every day and keeping them in the loop.

The Zhengzhou facility of Foxconn said on its official WeChat account that starting on Tuesday, workers will earn a daily incentive of 400 yuan ($55) for reporting to work, quadrupling the previous incentive of 100 yuan.

If employees show up for work for 15 or more days in November, they will also get additional bonuses, totaling 15,000 yuan if they show up every day. As curbs increased in response to a wave of regional outbreaks, China recorded more than 2,000 new domestic infections on Tuesday for the second consecutive day.
