Covid-19: According to a Chinese scientist, Covid-19 might have descended from humans. The genomic sequences of viral samples collected from Wuhan’s seafood market and those of coronavirus-infected patients have similarities, according to a scientist from Beijing University, raising the possibility that Covid originated in humans. The Huanan Seafood Market in Wuhan has been identified as the pandemic’s initial hub.
More than 1300 environmental and frozen animal samples had been collected at the market
According to a CNN reports, Tong Yigang of the Beijing University of Chemical Technology claimed that between January 2020 and March 2020, more than 1,300 environmental and frozen animal samples had been collected at the market. From the environmental samples, researchers had discovered three virus strains. Tongo added that there is not enough data to support recent studies that claimed the Covid-19 virus originated in raccoon dogs.
WHO stated that it was still missing crucial information from China
Zhou Lei, a different Chinese scientist, urged international scientific cooperation in identifying the virus’ origins and said that the location where Covid-19 was initially detected was not necessarily where it started. Zhou Lei, a different Chinese scientist, urged international scientific cooperation in identifying the virus’ origins and said that the location where Covid-19 was initially detected was not necessarily where it started. China has come under fire for obstructing international inquiries into the Covid-19 virus’s ancestry. The World Health Organization (WHO) stated last week that it was still missing crucial information from China on the start of the Covid outbreak. A lack of transparency, according to the head of the UN Health organisation’s programme on emerging illnesses, was “simply inexcusable.”
Exchanging data with the WHO is helpful- China
Following a story that suggested the World Health Organization (WHO) had given up on the hunt, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the head of the organization, recently stated (local time) that the group will keep working until it discovers the cause of the COVID-19 pandemic. Ghebreyesus discussed the Covid-19 issue in China with Minister Ma Xiaowei, the director of China’s National Health Commission, in January and asked for closer collaboration on the causes of the epidemic. China, meanwhile, has emphasised that it has always been open and helpful when exchanging data with the WHO.
