Climate Change: The world experienced its hottest March on record, marking the tenth consecutive month of record-breaking temperatures, according to the European Union climate agency.
Global Temperature Hits Record High for Tenth Consecutive Month
The Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S) reported that the average surface air temperature globally reached 14.14 degrees Celsius in March. This temperature was 0.73 degrees Celsius above the 1991-2020 average for March and 0.10 degrees Celsius higher than the previous record set in March 2016.
Additionally, the global average temperature over the past 12 months has reached unprecedented levels, standing at 1.58 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. This marks a significant escalation in global temperatures, raising concerns about the accelerating pace of climate change.
The 12-month period from April 2023 to March 2024 has also seen the highest global average temperature
The 12-month period from April 2023 to March 2024 has also seen the highest global average temperature on record, registering at 0.70°C above the 1991-2020 average and 1.58°C above the pre-industrial average from 1850-1900.
The persistent trend of rising temperatures underscores the urgent need for global action to address climate change and its far-reaching impacts on ecosystems, communities, and economies worldwide.
