After the Taliban came to power, different decrees are being implemented. Now another order has been issued in Afghanistan, after which the sale of contraceptives has been banned in two main cities of the country. The Taliban claim that the use of contraceptives by women is a Western conspiracy. The Taliban believe that contraceptives are there to reduce the number of Muslims. According to media reports, people associated with the Taliban are going to homes, threatening the midwives. Apart from this, they are asking to stop selling it at medical stores.
A store owner tells The Guardian that ‘they came to my store twice with guns and threatened me not to keep the contraceptive pills. He is constantly checking the pharmacy of Kabul. Because of which we have stopped selling the product. While a midwife was threatened by a Taliban commander saying that you are not allowed to go out and forward this notion of the West.
Earlier these restrictions were imposed
This is like playing with women’s rights once again. The Taliban captured power in Afghanistan on August 2021. After which the organization banned the higher education of women. The university was closed for women. Many women had to lose their jobs. Apart from this, women were banned from going out of the house without any man’s company.
Shabnam Nasimi, an Afghan-born social activist in the UK, told: “The Taliban’s control not only over women’s human right to work and study, but now over their bodies, is appalling.” This is a violation of the fundamental rights of women.
According to a Human Rights report released in 2021, women in Afghanistan do not have basic information like how to take precautions during pregnancy and family planning. But with such a decision of the Taliban, there is also a danger of population explosion in a country. In the midst of poverty, increasing population in the country will create more problems.
