Beijing: On Tuesday, the authorities in Wuhan decided to test the entire population for covid-19 after the coronavirus emerged its first local infections in more than a year in the Central Chinese city. Senior Wuhan official Li Tao in a press conference said that "the city of 11 million is swiftly launching comprehensive nucleic acid testing of all residents". Authorities on Monday, announced that seven locally transmitted infections had been found among the migrant workers in the city which ended up breaking a year long steak without domestic cases. As a result China confined the residents of entire cities to their homes and announced mass testing to avoid any kind of negligence. On Tuesday, China recorded 61 domestic cases as an outbreak of the fast spreading Delta Variant reached dozen of cities. "The eastern city of Yangzhou, near Nanjing, was the latest local government to order residents to stay home after large-scale testing detected 40 new infections over the past day". "More than 1.3 million residents of Yangzhou's urban core are now confined to their homes, with each household allowed to send only one person outside per day to shop for necessities" said the city government on Tuesday. Tourists has been banned from entering the capital during the period of summer holiday travel season and are asked to not leave their places unless necessary. China has previously been successful in defeating the virus and coming down to zero cases. But now the latest outbreak, that included more than 400 domestic cases since mid July, can be a warning for the country.
