Donald Trump: Former US president Donald Trump has alleged there’s massive election interference at a scale never seen. Trump, who was addressing a gathering of his supporters, said he was the victim of election interference.
The ex-president was indicted by a Manhattan grand jury last week in a case involving a 2016 hush-money payment to porn star Stormy Daniels. He pleaded not guilty to all 34 criminal counts against him.
Slams prosecutor Alvin Bragg
In his first speech after being charged in court, Trump claimed he was the victim of election interference and slammed New York prosecutor Alvin Bragg for bringing criminal charges against him. He was addressing a crowd of some 500 people in his Mar-a-Lago estate ballroom in Florida after flying in from New York.
“I never thought anything like this could happen in America,” Trump told supporters gathered at his Mar-a-Lago retreat in Palm Beach, Florida.
“The only crime that I’ve committed has been to fearlessly defend our nation against those who seek to destroy it,” he said.
‘World is laughing at us’
“We have to save our country. This is not the right thing to do. The world is already laughing at us – for things like our open borders, leaving behind millions of equipment in Afghanistan,” Trump said.
“This fake case was brought only to interfere with the upcoming 2024 elections, and it should be dropped immediately,” he added. “Now, there’s massive election interference at a scale never seen,” he said.
“While we are living through the darkest hours of American history, I can say that at least for this moment right now, I am in great spirits,” Trump said.
‘Juan Merchan a Trump-hating judge’
He said the judge in the case, Juan Merchan, is “a Trump-hating judge.”
The various legal predicaments are entangling Trump has he makes another run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024. Trump has become the first ever former President of the country to be formally arrested by the police.
“Donald J. Trump repeatedly and fraudulently falsified New York business records to conceal criminal conduct that hid damaging information from the voting public during the 2016 presidential election,” Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg said.
