Heatwaves: Various parts of the northern hemisphere are likely to experience heat waves in the coming days. Parts of Japan, India, France, Italy, Spain and the United States are already reeling under the effects of very high temperatures, which in some cases are exceeding 45 degrees. NDTV reports that tens of millions were “battling dangerously high temperatures in the United States on Saturday.”
Hot and dangerous weekend
The US National Weather Service has forecast an “extremely hot and dangerous weekend” in areas between California and Texas. Daytime highs are expected to be 10 and 20 Fahrenheit above the normal in the US West. In Arizona, residents are battling extremely hot temperatures for the past several days. Arizona’s capital Phoenix has seen daytime temperatures over 43 degrees (109F) for 16 consecutive days. Weather experts says hotter days are ahead in Phoenix and elsewhere in Arizona. Death Valley in California, one of the hottest places on the planet, will likely see temperatures rising over 54 degree Celsius on Sunday. Its nighttime temperature will cross 38 degree Celsius, according to weather experts. NDTV reports wildfires have burned 3,000 acres in South California. Meanwhile, authorities in Las Vegas have said that the region’s “heatwave is not typical desert heat.” They have urged the region’s residents to stay indoors and drink plenty of water.
Europe braces for very high temperatures
Italian authorities have warned of scorching days in Bologna, Rome and 14 other cities. The country’s weather service has predicted “the most intense heatwave of the summer and also one of the most intense of all time”. High temperatures and resulting drought in France are threatening the country’s dairy and farming industry. The national weather service of France says this June was the second hottest month in the country’s history.
