Pakistani People React to India's Financial Aid to Maldives: "Hum Toh Bhikari Hai" as UPI and Defence Support Strengthen Relations

Pakistani Reaction on Maldives: India’s growing influence in the Maldives, including financial aid, UPI integration, and defense support, has sparked strong reactions from Pakistani people. The recent visit of Maldives’ President Muizzu to India, where he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, marked a significant moment in India-Maldives relations. India extended financial aid of $400 million USD and a ₹30 billion INR bilateral currency swap agreement. Soon, the Maldives will also be integrated into India’s UPI (Unified Payments Interface) system, further strengthening ties. These developments come at a time when Pakistan is grappling with economic challenges, and many Pakistani citizens have voiced their opinions about India’s rising influence.

In a recent Pakistani video uploaded by Pakistani YouTuber Sana Amjad, Pakistani reactions to India’s financial aid to the Maldives were captured. Amjad, known for sharing content on India’s development and Pakistan’s public opinion, asked Pakistani citizens about their thoughts on India’s financial help to the Maldives, including the defense deals and UPI integration.

One Pakistani man said, “Humein sabse pehle apne ir-gird dekhna chahiye ki hum apne mulk ke liye kya kar rahe hain. Jab hum apne mulk ke liye sochenge, toh humein doosre mulk ke saath comparison karne mein aasanai hogi. Pakistan ne kabhi bhi India ko apne qadam mein accept nahi kiya hai, kyunki ye hamari sabse badi bewakoofi hai.”

Sana Amjad responded, pointing out how Pakistan often claims India doesn’t accept Pakistan as an equal. To this, the man bluntly replied, “India Pakistan ko kyun accept karega? Hum toh bhikari hain. Woh Pakistan ki tarah apne aap ko bhikari toh nahi banega na. Hum jis level pe abhi khade hain, hamare saath koi mulk bhi khada nahi hai.”

Maldives and India’s Strengthening Relations

Muizzu’s visit to India marks a shift in the Maldives’ stance toward India, especially after he campaigned for reducing Indian military presence in his country and promoting closer ties with China. However, the Maldives is now balancing its relations with India, as both nations have vested interests in the Indian Ocean region.

India’s financial aid and technological support, such as the upcoming UPI integration, will provide the Maldives with critical assistance, especially as its economy faces challenges post-pandemic. With a slowdown in GDP growth, the Maldives is seeking to rebuild its economy, and India’s aid could play a vital role in stabilizing the nation.
