Hong Kong is now more than ready to welcome the world , after a lull of more than three over strict Covid restrictions.

Hong Kong initiates Branding Campaign and ready to welcome the world back

High profile promotion campaign was unveiled by Hong Kong leader John Lee, which also included 5,00,000 free flights to lure visitors , businesses and investors back to the financial hub.

Total Brand makeover campaign of Southern Chinese City has been initiated by Hong Kong administration , where years of political repression, coupled with pandemic curbs have tarnished the business friendly reputation of the city which was once the prime financial centre of the country.

An enthusiastic Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee announced 500,000 free air tickets for visitor’s world over to experience the city’s “hustle and bustle”.  He also promised “no isolation, no quarantine and no restrictions” to business and tourism heavy weights.

World’s biggest ever welcome

The giveaway will start in March, and locals will get another opportunity to win 80,000 tickets in the summer.

Lee stated,

“This, ladies and gentlemen, is probably the world’s biggest welcome ever,”

The tagline was displayed on a backdrop in a variety of languages, including Russian and Spanish, as the campaign was launched with dancers and flashing neon lights outside the city’s main convention centre next to its famed harbour.

As of March 1, visitors from abroad will receive complimentary round-trip tickets from Cathay Pacific, Hong Kong Express, and Hong Kong Airlines, according to officials.

In an effort to curb Covid, Hong Kong was largely closed off behind closed borders for much of the past three years, with mandatory arrival quarantine of up to three weeks as well as rigorous testing and screening.

Just 6,00,000 tourists visited Hong Kong in 2022, which is less than 1% of the number who came in 2018. In contrast, a recent survey of 253 Japanese companies revealed that finding qualified employees was their top concern. Over 130 foreign companies have closed their Hong Kong offices in the past three years.

In 2017, when the economy contracted by 3.5%, more than 1,40,000 people quit Hong Kong’s labour force, according to government statistics.
