A recent statement by Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google’s parent company Alphabet, has increased the concern of the company’s employees. Earlier this year, the CEO of the company which fired 12,000 employees has once again pointed this out. Sundar Pichai has said in an interview to a media house that the company is still very focused towards its important work and something is yet to be done.
He also said that he is giving priority to the most important works and accordingly the employees are being arranged.
Sundar Pichai neither agreed nor denied the talk of retrenchment during a conversation with the Wall Street Journal. However, it was clear from his words that the company may lay off once more in the near future. Pichai recently said that the goal is to make the company 20 percent more efficient. Regarding the question related to this, he said, “We are keeping an eye on every aspect of whatever we do.” He said that better results have been seen but a lot of work is yet to be done.
Sundar Pichai said, “While we are very focused on the opportunities we have now, I think there is still a lot of work to be done. We are also at a very important juncture regarding AI. Under which we are employing people in the most important areas and this work is going on continuously. We are trying to achieve this goal through many different avenues. We’re really looking at everything that we do…we’re trying to be cost efficient and sustainable. We are focused towards creating sustainable savings. We are happy with what we have done so far but there is still a lot of work to be done.”
