Hersh Goldberg-Polin, a 23-year-old dual US-Israeli citizen, was among those kidnapped by Hamas after the horrible attack on October 7 that killed over 1,200 people. In a new, horrific video published by Hamas, Goldberg-Polin reveals the crimes he has witnessed while being held captive in Gaza. The video depicts him as dejected as he candidly discusses his circumstances, providing a terrible glimpse into the hardships faced by hostages in Gaza.
“I have survived with almost no medical care, little food, and little water,” Goldberg-Polin reveals in the video. “I can’t remember the last time I saw the sun or took a breath of fresh air.” He speaks directly to his family—his parents and two sisters—expressing his love and deep longing, stating, “Mama, Dada, Leebi, and Orly, I love you, I miss you, and I’m thinking about you every single day.”
Hersh Goldberg-Polin Criticises Israeli Government in Final Video Before His Death
In what appeared to be a propaganda video, Goldberg-Polin also voiced criticism of Israel’s handling of the situation. He mentioned, “My own country, Israel, has been trying to bomb me nonstop so they don’t have to take responsibility and make a deal for their mistake and for leaving me behind.” The appearance of longer hair, a beard, and a mustache suggested this video was recorded much later than his earlier one in April.
Parents Plea for Action
Goldberg-Polin’s parents, Rachel Goldberg and Jon Polin, reacted with grief but chose to speak out after the video’s release. They called for immediate action to secure the release of the remaining hostages. In a statement, they said, “This must serve as an immediate wake-up call to the world to take action today to secure the release of the remaining 101 hostages before it is too late.”
Heartbreaking Farewell
Goldberg-Polin was kidnapped during Hamas’ attack on the Nova music festival, and he lost his left arm to a grenade. His parents have advocated for the publication of Hamas bodycam footage in order to persuade Israeli and American officials to prioritise a prisoner exchange. At his funeral in Jerusalem on Monday, his mother, Rachel, mourned his terrible death, saying, “If there was something we could have done to save you, and we didn’t think of it, I beg your forgiveness.”
The bodies of Goldberg-Polin and five other hostages were discovered last week, with Israeli health officials confirming that they were slain by short-range bullets two to three days earlier. This heartbreaking occurrence has generated renewed calls for global action to avoid other families from suffering the same awful destiny.
