On the orders of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Pakistan Rangers arrested former Prime Minister of Pakistan and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan from outside the Islamabad High Court on Tuesday afternoon. After the arrest of Imran Khan, PTI leaders urged the workers and supporters to take to the streets in protest, after which the supporters took to the streets and staged a fierce demonstration. PTI supporters created ruckus, sabotage and arson at various places. The protesters entered the army commanders’ house in Lahore and the army headquarters compound in Rawalpindi, ransacking and setting the corps commander’s house on fire.
Government of Pakistan in action to stop unrest
After the arrest of Imran Khan, the situation has become tense all over Pakistan. In order to prevent anarchy and unrest from increasing in the coming days, the Government of Pakistan has come into action and has increased the security of government buildings. A large number of police forces have been deployed around the Prime Minister’s residence, Parliament, police headquarters and ministers’ houses.
Along with this, patrolling has also been increased around military complexes and police stations have also been put on alert mode.
YouTube, Facebook and Twitter suspended in Pakistan
After the arrest of Imran Khan, the Pakistan government has suspended social media platforms like YouTube, Facebook and Twitter in different parts of the country to curb rumours. Pakistani media has claimed that government institutions have been allowed to use social media platforms like YouTube, Facebook and Twitter.
Army convenes meeting to discuss martial law
Imran Khan’s supporters have targeted the army and its officers in many parts of the country after his arrest. On Tuesday evening, the protesters entered the house of army commanders in Lahore and even the premises of the army headquarters in Rawalpindi. Along with this, he ransacked the house of the Corps Commander in Lahore as well as set it on fire. After this, the Pakistan Army has called an emergency meeting and it is believed that in this meeting a decision can be taken to impose martial law in Pakistan.
Imran Khan will be presented in court on Wednesday
After his arrest, Imran Khan was taken to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), where he was medically examined by a team of 7 senior doctors. Now Imran Khan will be produced in the court on Wednesday (May 10). At the same time, after the arrest of Imran Khan, the Islamabad High Court has taken cognizance and is hearing about the legality of the arrest. However, today (Tuesday) the Islamabad High Court has reserved the verdict and said that it will pronounce the verdict later.
