Aim-9X supersonic, heat-seeking air to air missile from an F-22 fighter jet was used to shoot down a Chinese spy balloon that had erred into US airspace.
Chinese spy balloon that strays into US airspace shot down with single missile
China has expressed its strong anger and unhappiness over the turn of events. It has also issued a warning that “necessary responses” may be warranted.
The size of three buses, this enormous Chinese spy balloon had strayed into US airspace and was thought to have “surveillance capabilities.”
A Triumphant US President Joe Biden stated,
“We successfully took it down, and I want to complement our aviators who did it,”
Photographers who captured the shoot-down claimed a jet stream struck the balloon.
Washington calls it “clear violation” of US sovereignty and notifies Beijing of the shootdown
When the spy balloon reached US airspace, US Law makers reacted angrily. Washington had informed Beijing of the shot down and described it as a “clear violation” of US sovereignty. Prior to travelling into Canadian territory on Monday, the balloon had entered US airspace on January 28. On January 31, it subsequently re-entered US airspace.
Contrarily, China has vehemently denied that the balloon was a spy craft. It has also expressed regret over a civilian “airship” that had erred into US airspace and was being used for scientific and metrological purposes.
Pentagon has since explained that the balloon was simply the most recent in a long line of Chinese spy balloons that China intended to use as spies all across the world. According to reports, a second Chinese balloon was reportedly seen over Latin America on Friday.
