Navaratri Festival and Diplomatic Tensions
Navaratri is a biannual Hindu festival celebrated in honor of the goddess Durga, spanning nine nights. However, Trudeau’s message came during a period of heightened diplomatic tensions between Canada and India. This escalation followed Trudeau’s public suspicion that Indian agents were involved in the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India dismissed the allegation, leading to the expulsion of a diplomat and a suspension of new Canadian visas for Indian nationals.
Trudeau’s recent discussions on India’s ties with other global leaders have attracted significant online trolling. Nonetheless, he emphasized that Canada aimed to engage responsibly and constructively with the Indian government, showing efforts to manage the dispute diplomatically.
