A 20-year-old Indian Origin student, Preet Vikal has been sentenced to 6 years of prison and nine months in young offenders’ institution. The accused was captured on a CCTV footage, carrying a drunk woman home to rape her last June. The South Wales police reported that Preet Vikal carried ‘intoxicated’ woman in his arms and across shoulders along King Edward VII Avenue and North Road.
The incident
Vikal met the victim while they were both had gone to a night club in Cardiff with separate group of friends. The officials reported “The victim had drunk to excess and by the end of the night was, plainly, hopelessly intoxicated. She stepped outside the club and encountered Preet Vikal. The two engaged in conversation and moved away from their groups,” Video of Preet Vikal has surfaced online where he can be seen taking the woman to his flat. The convict also took private pictures of the victim and sent it to his friends.

Arrest and Prosecution
The investigation involved officials scanning hours of CCTV footage. It was his footage and Instagram message exchange with women that helped policy to identify the offender. Prosecutor Matthew Cobbe explained in Cardiff Court ‘The victim had drunk excessively and, by the end of the night, was hopelessly intoxicated. Her recollection of the night is vague, but she knew she and her friends had started drinking at home before going to a bar on Mill Lane, then to Live Lounge,” . The accused will serve two-third of his sentence in custody and the remainder on licence.
