An IndiGo Airlines flight from Amritsar to Ahmedabad was diverted due to bad weather and landed near Lahore in Pakistan. The aircraft reached Gujranwala before heading back to Indian airspace around 8 pm. According to the flight radar, the Indian aircraft flying at a speed of 454 knots entered the north of Lahore at around 7:30 pm on Saturday and returned to India at 8:01 pm.
Meanwhile, IndiGo said that the flight had landed safely in Ahmedabad after deviating. According to the airline, the plane entered Pakistan through the Attari border due to bad weather. During this, Amritsar ATC was in constant contact with Pakistani agencies over telephone.
Indigo said in a statement that flight number 6E-645 coming from Amritsar to Ahmedabad entered Pakistan airspace due to bad weather. This route deviated and entered Pakistan from the Attari border. During this, Pakistan’s agencies were in constant contact with Amritsar ATC through telephone. The crew of the aircraft also remained in constant contact with the Pakistani agencies and after going astray, the aircraft landed safely in Ahmedabad.
Flight arrived before time
According to data from flight tracking websites, the plane lost its way shortly after taking off from Amritsar at 7.45 am. It flew till Gujranwala and made a wide loop around Lahore. Then it came into the Indian airspace near Sri Muktsar Sahib City in Punjab.
According to the records, despite taking such a long detour, the flight landed at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad before time.
According to a report in Pakistan’s newspaper Dawn, a senior official of the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) there said that this is not unusual as it is allowed internationally in case of bad weather. It may be noted that in May, due to heavy rains in Pakistan, a Pakistan International Airline (PIA) aircraft had entered the Indian airspace and remained there for about 10 minutes. The aircraft was returning from Muscat on May 4 and was to land at the Allama Iqbal International Airport in Lahore. But due to heavy rain, it was becoming difficult for the pilot of the Boeing 777 aircraft to do so.
