International Yoga Day is also known as World Yoga Day.
History of International Yoga Day
The day was celebrated for the first time on 21 June 2015. The initiative to celebrate this day was taken by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. The United Nations passed a resolution in December 2014 declaring June 21 as International Yoga Day. Yoga Day is celebrated every year to increase the importance of this day. On this day, the importance of yoga in life is explained by organizing programs around the world. On the occasion of Yoga Day, from common people to celebs, they explain the importance of this day by doing yoga.
“On the occasion of the 9th International Day of Yoga, the Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations cordially invites you to join a Yoga session led by H. E. Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi,” according to an event announcement ahead of Goa mega celebration.
Yoga session will take place on June 21 from 8 am to 9 am on the expansive North Lawn of the UN Headquarters, where a bust of Mahatma Gandhi, a gift from India to the UN, was installed last December during India’s Presidency of the UN Security Council.
