How Yoga Day came into being
From June 21-25, PM Modi will be on his first state visit to the United States. The celebrations of ninth annual International Yoga day will be held at UN Headquarter’s North Lawn from 8-9 am. When PM Modi made the appeal in his maiden UN Speech to celebrate Yoga day, a record of 175 countries backed his resolution. “Yoga embodies unity of mind and body; thought and action; restraint and fulfilment; harmony between man and nature; a holistic approach to health and well-being. It is not about exercise but to discover the sense of oneness with yourself, the world and nature,” the Prime Minister had said.

Celebrating International Yoga Day
The theme for this year’s G-20 is ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, an ancient Indian phrase meaning ‘The World Is One Family’. The phrase represents ancient Indian heritage and India’s inclusive approach to world order. The celebration of Yoga Day at a large scale is a testimony to India’s message of ‘oneness of humanity’ resonating with the global community. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has mentioned that at least 25 crore people are expected to join in this year celebrations. PM Modi has led several mass Yoga Day celebrations ever since its commencement in 2014.
