Iran and Israel have long been suspected of spying on each other. Israel considers Iran to be its most serious threat and has repeatedly threatened military action to prevent Iran from getting nuclear weapons.
Iran denies seeking such weapons and has pledged a retaliatory strike against any Israeli invasion
In January, Israel announced the dismantling of an Iranian spy network that used social media to recruit Israeli women to photograph critical areas, gather intelligence, and push their sons to join Israeli military intelligence.
Iran announced in July that it had apprehended members of an armed organisation associated to Mossad after they crossed its western border.
