Diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran may soon be back on track. In fact, both countries have agreed to resume diplomatic relations and open embassies. According to media reports, the two countries held peace talks in Beijing, after which the agreement was announced.
Iranian news agency IRNA also said officials of Iran and Saudi Arabia held talks in Beijing, after which they agreed to re-establish diplomatic ties and open embassies.
A joint tripartite statement issued by China, Saudi Arabia and Iran said that this development has come to the notice of good relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran at the initiative of Chinese President Xi Jinping.
China plays key role
Information was given in a statement issued by the Saudi Arabian government, the three countries have announced that there has been an agreement between Saudi Arabia and Iran, in which they will restore diplomatic relations between them and within a period of two months Includes agreement on reopening embassies and missions. The agreement also includes respect for the sovereignty of the states (countries) and non-interference in the internal affairs of the states.
The trilateral agreement will host talks between China, Saudi Arabia, and Iran based on their shared desire to resolve disagreements between them through dialogue and diplomacy.
The statement said that both countries agreed to abide by the principles, objectives of the Charters of the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and international conventions and norms. The talks between the delegations of Saudi Arabia and Iran were held in Beijing from 6 to 10 March 2023. The Saudi Arabian delegation was led by Minister of State, National Security Advisor Dr. Mussad bin Mohammed Al-Aiban, while the Iranian delegation was led by Ali Shamkhani, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council.
