Israel-Palestine Conflict: Israeli forces have maintained their attacks on the Gaza Strip, with potential plans for a ground invasion as the conflict with Hamas has entered its sixth day. Hamas militants have taken 150 hostages, and Israel has insisted it won’t end its blockade until they are released.
In an effort to garner support for its offensive in Gaza, Israel presented distressing images of deceased children and civilians to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and NATO defense ministers, asserting that these casualties were caused by Hamas.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has pledged to eliminate Hamas in response to their deadly assault on Israeli communities on October 7. However, Gaza is on the brink of a humanitarian crisis as the death toll has exceeded 1,500, and essential supplies are running low.
An Israeli airstrike has devastated a refugee camp in Gaza City’s Shati area. This attack followed an intensified barrage after a multi-front assault by Hamas resulted in over 1,300 Israeli casualties.
Warning:
Iran’s UN mission has issued a warning that if Israel does not halt its bombardment, the conflict may escalate to other areas. While Iran denies direct involvement in the Hamas attacks, it has emphasized the success of the operation due to its surprise element, branding it as a significant failure for Israel.
As of October 12, 2023, Israeli artillery has been firing on the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip approximately every 30 seconds, as reported by the news agency AFP. The Israeli military stated that it has unleashed around 6,000 munitions, containing a total of 4,000 tonnes of explosives, on Gaza since the onset of the strikes on Saturday.
