Israel Palestine Conflict: Israeli forces have escalated their offensive in the Gaza Strip, resulting in a significant loss of civilian life. The Hamas-run health ministry reported that at least 50 people were killed during Israeli bombardment in the Jabalia refugee camp, situated in the northern Gaza Strip. These developments come as the Israeli army confirmed being involved in “fierce battles” with Hamas militants inside the enclave, continuing their ground and air operations.
Israeli Offensive in Gaza Inflicts Heavy Civilian Toll
In addition to the mounting civilian casualties, an estimated 800,000 Palestinians from Gaza have fled to the southern areas of the enclave to escape the relentless Israeli airstrikes. Over half of the 2.3 million inhabitants of Gaza have been displaced from their homes. The displaced individuals are taking refuge in overcrowded UN-run schools and hospitals, where they also share space with wounded patients.
Thailand’s foreign minister embarked on an urgent diplomatic mission to Qatar and Egypt to discuss the fate of 22 Thais who were taken hostage by the Palestinian Islamist group, Hamas, during their deadly October 7 attack on Israel.
The World Health Organization (WHO) warned of an impending “public health catastrophe” in Gaza due to overcrowding, massive displacement, and damage to water and sanitation infrastructure. The ongoing Israeli strikes have claimed the lives of at least 8,525 Palestinians, including 3,542 children, since October 7, according to the health ministry in the Hamas-controlled territory.
