Rishi Sunak: According to The Guardian, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak flew private jet travels costing about 500,000 in just over a week, citing official data on the PM’s abroad travel expenses. Sunak has been chastised by the opposition over the expenditure, which it claims contradicts his vows to combat climate change. Sunak was chastised in January for taking a 30-minute private jet flight from London to visit a treatment facility in Leeds.

Cabinet Office data on Rishi Sunak’s Trip

According to Cabinet Office data, Rishi Sunak’s one-day trip to Egypt for the COP27 summit in November 2022 will cost 107,966 in private jet travel. A week later, on November 13, he travelled to Bali, Indonesia, for the G20 conference and returned on November 17, a round trip that cost more over ã340,000. Shortly after, the UK prime minister spent a day visiting troops in Latvia and Estonia, a trip that cost more than ã62,000.

Terrible waste of taxpayers- Wera Hobhouse

Sunak was chastised by the Liberal Democrats over the spending, saying, “This is a terrible waste of taxpayers’ money at a time when people are struggling to pay their bills. This Conservative government has once again proven to be absolutely out of touch. They can appear to care about a better future with their so-called ‘Green Day,’ but in reality they do not care,” said Wera Hobhouse, the party’s energy and climate spokesperson.

Defended by a spokeswoman for 10 Downing Street

Sunak’s flights were defended by a spokeswoman for 10 Downing Street. “The prime minister’s position involves critical discussions with foreign leaders during bilateral visits and summits to discuss topics of international importance, like as security, defence, and commerce,” the spokeswoman told The Guardian. All of the flights indicated in the paper included an Airbus A-321 operated on behalf of the UK government by the charter carrier Titan Airways.
