In light of the storms that have pummelling California since December 26, killing at least 19 people and causing flooding, power outages, mudslides, evacuations, and road closures, US President Joe Biden issued an emergency declaration for the state on Saturday.

According to a statement from the White House, Biden directed federal assistance to support state, tribal, and local recovery efforts in areas damaged by catastrophic winter storms, flooding, landslides, and mudslides.

Federal funding available to affected individuals
The president’s move makes federal funding available to those in need in the counties of Merced, Sacramento, and Santa Cruz.
