Joe Biden: US President Joe Biden committed another gaffe on Wednesday when he said Russia was losing the war in Iraq. He later corrected himself by saying Ukraine.
Mr Biden was leaving Washington for Chicago.
“It’s hard to tell really. But he’s clearly losing the war in Iraq. He’s losing the war at home and he has become a bit of a pariah around the world. And it’s not just NATO, it’s not just the European Union. It’s Japan, it’s 40 nations,” the president said in response to a question.
He was responding to a query about whether the revolt by PMC Wagner had weakened President Putin.
This was the second gaffe the president committed in 24 hours.
On Tuesday, he named China while he had India in mind. While addressing the attendees of a fundraiser, Mr Biden said, “You probably saw my new best friend – the prime minister of a little country that’s now the largest in the world, China – I mean, excuse me, India. India is not looking for a permanent alliance, but they’re looking for some hedge against – in the region.”
The president was referring to Indian PM Narendra Modi who was on a state visit to the US last week.
“Nothing unusual”
A report in India Today says such“miscues are not unusual for the 80-year-old president.”
According to a Reuters-IPSOS poll survey, 73% of all the respondents thought President Biden isn’t fit for the job. Approximately 2/3rd of Democrats agreed with this statement.
Mr Biden has indicated that he would stand again for the White House in 2024.
His main rival, Donald Trump, has ridiculed the president for his age. In a Sky News Australia interview, Mr Trump said, “There’s something wrong,” while referring to the president’s health.
