John Kirby, the coordinator of the US National Security Council, stated on Monday that although US Speaker Nancy Pelosi has not yet announced her travel intentions to Taiwan, she is entitled to do so and that her journey is not out of the ordinary.
John Kirby continued, “The Speaker has not confirmed any trip arrangements and it is for the Speaker to do so, along with her staff. If she goes, it’s not without precedent, it’s not new.”
“The Speaker is entitled to travel to Taiwan.
We won’t be making any remarks or guesses about the places she will be visiting, “Added he.
The US House Speaker is reportedly planning to visit Taiwan on August 2 and have a meeting with President Tsai Ing-wen.
According to prior media reports citing a senior Taiwanese government official and a US official, Pelosi will travel to Taiwan and hold meetings with government representatives on the autonomous island that China has threatened to annex.
She is anticipated to spend the night in Taiwan, the Taiwanese official noted. When exactly Pelosi will arrive in Taipei is unknown.
Beijing has warned against Nancy’s trip to Taiwan since since news of the US House Speaker’s travel broke last month, stating that it will respond firmly and take countermeasures if the US side insists on going forward with the visit.
Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, according to Chinese officials, would be against the One China Policy and would amount to supporting an illegal uprising. According to a state-run Chinese media site, Pelosi must never cross the “red line” by travelling to Taiwan.
According to Kirby, Pelosi’s trip to Taiwan will be supported by the Biden administration.

“We’re going to make sure that she can travel abroad safely and securely because we want to make sure she can. The rhetoric coming from China has no justification. There is no justification for taking any action. Representatives from Congress frequently visit Taiwan, “Kirby was quoted by CNN.
The US official also stated that personnel from the Defense Department are continuously observing any Chinese moves in the area and formulating a strategy to protect her.
The visit is up to Pelosi, the US Secretary of State stated, adding that “we do not know what Speaker Pelosi wants to do.”
“A separate and equal branch of government is the Congress. The Speaker will make the final choice “Added he.
Blinken said that previous speakers and Congressmen have visited Taiwan and claimed that such a visit has precedent.
We are looking for them, in the event that she decides to visit, to act responsibly and not to engage in any further escalation, Blinken said, adding that “that would be entirely on Beijing if the speaker does decide to visit and China tries to create some kind of crisis or otherwise escalate tensions.”
Nancy Pelosi, the US vice president’s right-hand woman and the next in line for the Oval Office, will visit Taiwan on Tuesday and is likely to meet with other top government figures before departing the following day.
