Reportedly, an Indian student was attacked with Khalistanis in Sydney’s Merrylands suburbs.
According to The Australia Today, the attack occurred at 5.30 a.m local time when the student was on his way to work.
Sudden attack
The unnamed student told the newspaper that as soon as he opened the door of his car, 4-5 men chanting pro-Khalistan slogans appeared suddenly and attacked him with a metal rod. After punching for several minutes, they left, saying, ” This should be a lesson for me for opposing the Khalistan issue. If not, they are ready to give me more lessons like this.”
The attack continued for 5 minutes,the unnamed 23-year-old student said.
This incident was reported to the New South Wales Police which transported the victim to a hospital. The police report says he suffered significant injuries on his leg, arm and head.
NSW Police has issued the following statement on the incident,”“Shortly after 5.40 am on Friday 14 July 2023, officers attached to Cumberland Police Area Command attended Rupert Street, Merrylands West, following reports of an assault.“
The police have also urged people to come forward and share any information about the attack.
The Australia Today says the victim will undergo a corrective surgery on his arm, “which is split open at the elbow area.”
‘No room for violence’
Meanwhile Andrew Charlton, Member of Parliament for Merrylands and Paramatta has condemned the attack. Speaking to the newspaper, Charlton said,“There is no place in our local community for extremism or violence of any kind.”
Yogesh Khattar, a leader of the local Indian community said, “I have been involved in regular discussions with the Engagement and Hate crime unit and doing my best to reduce this tension within the community but it seems that these people believe in violence and creating an atmosphere of fear.”
