Larry Nassar: US media has reported that Larry Nassar, the disgraced medical doctor of USA Gymnastics, has been stabbed 10 times by a fellow inmate in a prison. This incident happened on Sunday afternoon at the US Penitentiary Coleman, Florida. Nassar’s condition is stable, say people in the know. Larry Nassar was jailed for 175 years on charges of sexually abusing several gymnasts who were under his care.

Conditions is stable

The Federal Bureau of Prisons has confirmed this attack but declined to identify the victim because of privacy reasons. Bureau spokesman Benjamin O’Cone said,”Responding staff immediately initiated life-saving measures,” he added, “The inmate was transported by (emergency personnel) to a local hospital for further treatment and evaluation.” Associated Press reports that Nassar was stabbed 10 times- six times in the chest, twice in the back and twice in the back. This information was given by Joe Rojas, president of the local corrections union to CNN.

High profile victims

The Federal Bureau of Investigations has been notified about Nassar’s stabbing and an inquiry is on, said Cone. He also said that no other inmates were wounded in this incident. Nassar’s victims included Olympic gold medalists Simone Biles, Aly Raisman and McKayla Maroney. His sentencing followed a week-long hearing in which Nassar’s 160 victims- most of whom were minor- told the court of their ordeal. Furthermore, after his conviction, USA Gymnastics has overhauled its leadership and filed for bankruptcy. The body told the authorities it was unable to handle the hundreds of lawsuits filed by women who said they were abused by Larry Nassar. His former employer, Michigan State University agreed to a $500 million settlement with the hundreds of women who were sexually abused by him, according to India Today. In September 2021, gymnasts Maroney and Biles gave detailed testimonies of Nassar’s crimes and also accused the FBI of ignoring his victims.
