Magnitude 6.9 earthquake strikes Kermadec Islands in New Zealand – USGS

The Kermadec Islands region of New Zealand was hit by an earthquake on Saturday with a magnitude of 6.9, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

According to USGS, the earthquake was at a depth of 152 km (94 miles). The magnitude and depth were previously assessed by the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre to be 6.6 and 183 km, respectively.

The U.S. Tsunami Warning System reported that no tsunami alert was issued following the earthquake.
