Majidreza Rahnavard, 23-year-old man executed in Iran for participating in anti-government protests, made his final wish in a video that went viral on social media. In the video, he can be heard saying that his death should be celebrated. It should be noted that Majidreza Rahnavard was publicly hanged on Monday in Mashhad.
Majidreza Rahnavard’s last wish goes viral
Today, a video surfaced showing Rahnavard expressing what were most likely his last wishes. Rahnavard is seen speaking to the camera while blindfolded and flanked by two masked guards.
“I don’t want anyone to mourn upon my grave. I don’t want them to read Quran or pray. Just celebrate and play celebrating music,” read the translation supers.
Darya Safai, Member of the Belgian Parliament and a Women’s rights activist, tweeted the video. The caption attached with the video read, “Just before he’s hanged on Dec 12 by Iran’s regime, they interrogate #MajidrezaRahnavard. His last words: I don’t want Quran to be read or prayed on my grave, just celebrate. Sharia Law is the reason he’s gone. His verdict: War with Allah. Rahnavard’s prosecution
Mahmood Amiry-Moghaddam, the director of the Oslo-based organisation Iran Human Rights, claimed that Rahnavard “was sentenced to death based on coerced confessions during a… show trial,” AFP reported.
“The public execution of a young protester, 23 days after his arrest, is another serious crime committed by the Islamic republic’s leaders,” he was quoted as saying by AFP.
