Maldives Fire: The fire service said that a fire ripped through crowded foreign workers’ housing in Male, the capital of the Maldives, killing at least 10 people and injuring many more. According to reports, 10 bodies were found on the upper story of a structure that was burned in the fire, and 9 Indians were apparently killed in the blaze.
The ground-floor auto repair shop appeared to be where the fire started.
According to news agency AFP, a fire department representative declared, “We have recovered 10 bodies,” adding that it took them around four hours to put out the fire.

An other victim of the fire was a Bangladeshi national, according to AFP’s citation of a security official.
The President of Maldives orders a Probe
Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the president of the Maldives, stated that an investigation into the incident is now ongoing.
He tweeted, “The dangerous fire incident in the city yesterday is a very sad incident. Many people have lost their lives and a large number have been injured. The incident is currently being investigated. Condolences to the families of the deceased.”

India conveyed its condolences over the incident and said it was in touch with the relevant authorities.
The Indian High Commission in the Maldives tweeted, “We are deeply saddened by the tragic fire incident in Malé which has caused loss of lives, including reportedly of Indian nationals. We are in close contact with the Maldivian authorities.”
About half of Male’s 250,000 residents are said to be foreign workers, most of whom are from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.
