Meta: According to the Financial Times, Facebook owner Meta Inc is set to declare whether it will allow former US President Donald Trump to rejoin Facebook and Instagram.
The social media company earlier stated that it will determine whether to let the former president to rejoin by January 7. However, the decision is now scheduled to be made later this month, according to the newspaper, citing a person familiar with the situation.
Company has formed a working group to address the issue
According to people familiar with Meta’s operations, the company has formed a working group to address the issue, and the group includes members of the public policy, communications, and content policy teams.
Meta did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters.
The news comes after Elon Musk, Twitter’s new owner, reversed a permanent ban on Trump on the social media platform in November last year after polling users.
Trump insisted that he had no desire to return to Twitter
“I don’t see any reason for it,” the former president replied via video when a panel at the Republican Jewish Coalition’s annual leadership gathering asked if he wanted to return to Twitter.
Trump has been persistent in his attacks on the integrity of U.S. voting since his defeat in the 2020 election, and he launched a quest to reclaim the president in 2024 in November, trying to outpace potential Republican competitors.
