Moscow: Russia’s defence ministry says three drones attacked Moscow’s international airport on Saturday night. The airport was shut down on Sunday. TASS said two office blocks were damaged in the drone attacks.
‘Ukraine behind these attacks’
Russia has blamed these attacks on Ukraine. The Ukrainian border is 500 kilometres away from Moscow. TASS reported, “The capital’s Vnukovo airport is closed for departures and arrivals, flights are redirected to other airports.” The news agency said it got this information from Russia’s aviation ministry. A Twitter user mocked Russia over the latest attacks saying investors will avoid Moscow henceforth.
“After the attack of unidentified drones on Russian office buildings, it is now certain that every investor in the world will want to open an office in Moscow,” tweeted Intermarium 24 who describes himself as a hybrid-war expert.
Destroyed and suppressed
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said there were no injuries or deaths in the latest attack on the city. He said in a statement, “A night-time Ukrainian drone attack on Moscow damaged two office blocks. The facades of two city office towers were slightly damaged. There are no victims or injured.”
Russia’s defence ministry said the drone strikes were terrorist attacks. It said one drone was destroyed by the Russian military while the other two were neutralised by electronic warfare.
“The Kyiv regime’s attempted terrorist attack with unmanned aerial vehicles on objects in the city of Moscow was thwarted,” and “two suppressed by electronic warfare.”
The statement said, “One Ukrainian UAV was destroyed in the air by air defence systems over the territory of the Odintsovo district of Moscow region.”
“Two more drones were suppressed by electronic warfare and, having lost control, crashed on the territory of Moscow-City’s non-residential building complex.” Russia has alleged that Ukraine has hit Moscow several times in the past, including a stone attack on the Kremlin.
