North Korean unpredictable President Kim Jong Un’s penchant for sophisticated armaments and missiles goes beyond imagination. An enigmatic loner, but one of the most infamous international leaders, of course for his notoriety he has acquired more foes than friends.
North Korea is one of those countries where the citizens are cut off from the external world. The internal news and regular activities of North Korea are out of external reach. And if we speak about North Korea it is only Kim and his peculiar antics we are limited to.
The recent firing of intercontinental ballistic missiles by North Korea landed on the habitats situated in the eastern waters. South Korea and Japan are on the closest radar of the threat perception. Frightening warning alarm bells from cellphones, radios and public loudspeakers rang out in Northern Japan where fishermen hurried back to shore after North Korea fired its ICBM above its eastern waters. Adding to it more provocative demonstration of weapons was displayed at regular intervals.
The ICBM test, which was followed by two short-range ballistic launches into the sea, was strongly condemned by North Korea’s neighbours and the United States, which said it is willing to take “all necessary measures” to ensure the safety of the American homeland and allies South Korea and Japan.
US to take stringent actions if NK goes ahead with its Nuclear Tests
The Biden administration also warned of unspecified “additional costs and consequences” if North Korea goes on to detonate a nuclear test device for the first time since September 2017.
The launches are the latest in a series of North Korean weapons tests in recent months that have raised tensions in the region. They came a day after the North fired more than 20 missiles, the most it has launched in a single day ever.
We need to understand and analyse the imperious and whimsical attitude of Kim Jong Un, his penchant for sophisticated weapons, his isolated but ominous acts – that may lead to global destruction and his present foray/intentions in launching ABM.
North Korea has kept itself isolated from the world, thanks to Kim Jong Un, who prefers to keep his country out of the purview of the world order. Understanding that he is a dictator, moreover, it would be interesting to figure out why he tries to flaunt himself as a great military dictator. Why he relishes firing ICBMs?
Is US attention the major cause?
With the current turbulent geopolitical situation, when the Russian invasion of Ukraine has become a serious cause of concern for the world, why Kim Jong Un’s North Korea is trying to add new dimensions to the already chaotic state of affairs? We have to understand that North Korea has systematically raked up provocations until it gets U.S. attention — and can then negotiate for sanctions relief or other concessions from what it sees as a position of power.
The scale for getting US attention these days is higher, as Biden is focused on upcoming elections at home besides his inability to provide meaningful and effective intervention in the Russia-Ukraine war. With the world’s Energy Power shifting poles, drawing Biden’s attention would need louder firecrackers. That could mean the North has to do more to get the reaction it wants — but it also increases the possibility that Pyongyang could end up pushing South Korea too far towards creating an indigenous nuclear program.
Apart from the latest launches, the more perilous blitzkrieg is a string of North Korean tests of nuclear-capable missiles. And with a new North Korean law that authorizes the preemptive use of nuclear weapons in a broad range of situations, though there’s widespread doubt the North would use those bombs against U.S. and South Korean forces.

Kim is vying for US attention when Biden is travelling to Asia and also focused on elections at home
The current operations of North Korea are a pretext for responding to U.S.-South Korean military drills that it views as a rehearsal for an invasion. But Kim is also well aware of what’s happening in the world — especially as it relates to its rivals. U.S. President Joe Biden is preparing to travel to Asia for a series of summits and is facing crucial midterm elections this month.
Kim is vying for Biden’s attention, as Pyongyang has also previously timed its weapons tests around American elections, presumably in the hopes of pushing itself higher on the US President’s ‘to-do list’ amid global turmoil.
A coarse balance has been established between South Korea’s vastly superior conventional capacity (its alliance with the U.S.) and North Korea’s nascent nuclear weapons capacity, during the last 30 years. Should South Korea now pursue its own independent nuclear weapons capacity, to balance the growing disparity in ‘weapons of mass destruction?’

North Korea eying for targeting every city on the US mainland
Don’t anticipate that North Korea will put a stop in the short term, though, as Pyongyang looks to use its full array of weapons to get what it wants. It’s important to note that with each North Korean weapons test — whether of the shortest-range missile or a nuclear bomb — the North Korean scientists are getting closer to their ultimate goal of a fully functional nuclear arsenal capable of targeting every city on the U.S. mainland.
The bizarre dream of a whimsical insane should not lead to the mass destruction of the world.
