Pakistan mosque blast: According to The Express Tribune, the Pakistani government was looking into how the Peshawar mosque bomber was able to enter a restricted location and whether there was any insider assistance.
More than 170 individuals were injured in addition to the 100 deaths from the bomb attack on Monday. There has been no official confirmation of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan’s (TTP) original claim of responsibility for the attack.
The bomber stood in the first row while 400 people offered prayers, according to Peshawar officials. Peshawar Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Muhammad Ijaz Khan said “the bomber detonated his load at the moment hundreds of people had lined up for prayers.”
The attacker appeared to have passed through several barricades
The mosque is located inside a heavily protected enclosure in Peshawar that also houses the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) offices and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police force’s headquarters. Parts of the mosque collapsed after the blast, trapping several people beneath the debris. The Express Tribune quoted Khan as saying, “The attacker appeared to have passed through several barricades manned by security forces to get into the “Red Zone” compound.”
“An inquiry was underway into how the attacker breached the elite security cordon and whether there was any inside help,” Khan said.
The provincial health department of Peshawar declared an emergency and instructed all medical staff to report for duty.
India had previously sent its condolences to the families of the terrorist strike victims.
MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi posted on Twitter, “The families of the victims of the terrorist assault in Peshawar yesterday have India’s sincere sympathies. We vehemently condemn this act, which has claimed so many lives “.
