Pakistan : Pakistan’s foreign ministry termed the Indo-US joint statement as “unwarranted, one-sided, and misleading.” It also added that naming Pakistan was “contrary to diplomatic norms.”
On Wednesday, India and the United States issued a common statement asking “Pakistan to take immediate action to ensure that no territory under its control is used for launching terrorist attacks.”
This statement was issued during PM Modi’s state visit to the United States between June 21 and 23. The statement also condemned the use of foreign proxies.
By naming Pakistan, both India and the United States have made it clear that Islamabad has a responsibility to curb terrorist activities from its soil. So far, the US has stopped mentioning Pakistan while talking about terrorism against India.
The term “foreign proxies” refers to terrorist outfits based in Pakistan which get logistical and material support from the government.

“No ifs and buts”
Mr Modi also interacted with the US Congress during his state visit.
Addressing the lawmakers in Washington, the prime minister said. “There cannot be any ifs or buts in dealing with terrorism.”
He reminded the Congress of 9/11 and 26/11, two terrorist incidents which claimed hundreds of lives in the US and India, respectively.
“More than two decades after 9/11 and more than a decade after 26/11 in Mumbai, radicalism and terrorism still remain a pressing danger for the whole world. These ideologies keep taking new identities and forms but their intentions are the same,” the prime minister told the US Congress.
Not naming China
The prime minister refrained from naming China while talking about the Indo-Pacific region.
“The dark clouds of coercion and confrontation are casting their shadow in the Indo-Pacific. The stability of the region has become one of the central concerns of our partnership,” Mr Modi declared.
