Pakistan: Suicide blast in Quetta kills 2 including a cop

Pakistan: On Wednesday, a police officer and a child were killed in a suicide blast on a police truck in the Baleli neighbourhood of Quetta, near Pakistan’s Balochistan. According to reports, at least 24 people were hurt in the blast, including 20 police officers. The injured were taken to a neighbouring hospital.

Blast reportedly used 25 kg of explosives

According to Pakistani media sources, the driving police truck crashed and plunged into a ditch as a result of an explosion near the vehicle. Police, a rescue crew, and a bomb disposal team have all been dispatched to the explosion location. The blast is thought to have used 25 kg of explosives.

DIG Ghulam Azfar Mahesar of Quetta acknowledged to Pakistan media that the explosion was a suicide assault after discovering the remains of a suicide bomber at the scene. According to him, the police truck overturned owing to the explosion and plunged into a ravine, as reported by Geo News.

Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for the attack

The proscribed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the attack, according to Dawn. According to the report, today’s detonation comes a day after the militant organisation called off its ceasefire with the government and directed its combatants to carry out strikes around the country.

According to the official, the explosion destroyed three vehicles, including the police truck and two surrounding cars.

The bomb location has been roped off, and further investigation is underway.
