Palestine’s Hamas Attacks Israel with 5,000 Rockets, Hundreds Injured; Netanyahu declares “State of War”

Israel

Israel: On Saturday, the Israeli military reported that militants from Hamas, a Palestinian group, had crossed into Israel from the Gaza Strip. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that a series of rocket attacks were launched from the blockaded Gaza Strip, resulting in the death of at least one individual in Israel. Rockets continued to be fired into the sky from various locations in Gaza after the initial attacks.

Israel – Palestine War

In response to a heavy rocket barrage launched from the blockaded Gaza Strip, Israel has declared a ‘state of war.’ Palestinian Hamas militants have claimed responsibility, describing it as their “first strike,” involving the launch of over 5,000 rockets toward Israel on a festive holiday morning, which led to blaring sirens being heard across the country.

Amid the escalating attacks by Palestinian fighters, Israel has initiated Operation “Iron Swords,” which entails significant operations against Hamas in Southern Israel and along the Gaza Strip. In response to the situation, Israel has also asked over 10,000 Reservists to bolster the country’s defense forces. Additionally, there have been reports of commercial airports in central and southern Israel being temporarily closed, while Ben Gurion Airport remains operational but under heightened security instructions and guidelines.

Casualties in Israel

Multiple hospitals in Israel have reported over 100 people wounded in rocket strikes across southern and central Israel, with many in severe conditions. Soroka Hospital in Beersheba received 80 patients, Assaf Harofeh Medical Center near Tel Aviv admitted 17 patients, and Kaplan Medical Center in Rehovot is treating 21 casualties, as reported by The Times of Israel.

Rockets from the Gaza Strip have also landed in Mevaseret Zion, a town near Jerusalem. Israel’s police commissioner stated that at least 21 active operations are underway against terrorist groups in southern regions. Additionally, Palestinian fighters have reportedly captured an Israeli Military Base near the Gaza border.

Attack from Gaza in the morning

Leader Mohamed Deif said, “We have decided to put an end to all of this, with the help of God, so that the enemy understands that the time of recklessness without accountability is over.”

The Israeli Army issued warnings of sirens being activated in the southern and central regions of the country, advising the public to remain close to bomb shelters and declaring a “state of readiness for war.” Additionally, videos circulated on social media depicting Palestinian gunmen firing at a police vehicle in Israel’s Sderot.

Long-standing conflict between Israel & Palestine

Israel and Palestinian militants have engaged in multiple conflicts since Hamas assumed control of Gaza in 2007. The recent escalation follows heightened tensions when Israel closed its borders to Gazan workers. This year, the conflict has resulted in the deaths of 247 Palestinians, 32 Israelis, and two foreigners, encompassing both security and civilians.
