PM Modi meets top US officials, business leaders and Indian Americans on last day of US trip

PM Modi Visit to US: Prime Minister concludes his US state visit by meeting the top officials of the Biden Administration at the State Department. He will meet Vice President Kamala Harris, Secretary Anthony Blinken and other senior officials connected with India-US relations.

Later, PM Modi will address 1,200 business leaders at the Kennedy Center of Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. The invitees include the CEOs of FedEx, Mastercard, TechMahindra, Mastek and Adobe.

Mr Modi had met GE Aerospace CEO in Washington on June 22. Subsequent to that meeting, GE announced that it would be setting up an aircraft-manufacturing plant in India.

In the evening, the PM would address the Indian American community at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center in Washington, DC. This meeting has been organized by Bharat Barai, a prominent face among Indian Americans.

What has PM Modi’s US trip achieved so far?

Both countries have agreed to collaborate in space, defence, telecom, supply chain and quantum technologies sectors.

India’s ISRO and United States’ NASA will explore outer space jointly in 2025. India has also joined the Artemis Accords to peacefully exploit Moon and other planetary bodies.

Micron will set up a semiconductor research facility in Gujarat. Other US companies will also help India in scaling its semiconductor-related supply chain capabilities. According to people in the know, approximately 60,000 Indians will receive training in this area from American institutions.

Visa bottlenecks to ease

The United States will open two new consulates in India to ease the visa-issuing process. The State Department also announced on Thursday that it will initiate the renewal of H-1B visas within the US itself.

Top universities of both countries will also collaborate in education and research.

India will receive 17 drones from the US for augmenting its defence capabilities.
