Narendra Modi: The latest data from business intelligence company Morning Consult reveals that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the world’s most liked leader, with an impressive 78% approval rating. This places him at the top of the list among the 22 surveyed nations, with Mexico’s Andrés Manuel López Obrador coming in second place.

Where do other leaders rank?

In contrast, US President Joe Biden, UK’s Chancellor Rishi Sunak, and Canada’s Justin Trudeau rank much lower on the list. According to the data shared on the organization’s website, 78% of people have a favourable view of PM Modi while 18% hold an unfavourable view. PM Modi’s approval rating has seen an upward trend in recent days, with a 79% approval rating recorded in the third week of January.

The approval ratings are calculated based on a seven-day moving average of adult residents in each country, using a sample size that varies from nation to nation. The latest approval ratings were calculated based on data collected from January 26th to 31st, 2023. Swiss leader Alain Berset stands in third place with a 62% approval rating, followed by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese at 58%.

PM Modi’s increasing popularity

PM Modi’s popularity extends beyond just his approval rating in the Morning Consult data. Earlier this month,a poll revealed that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance is projected to win 284 seats if elections were to be held today, while the Congress party is projected to win 191 seats. PM Modi remains the favourite to hold the prime ministerial post, with 52% of voters in India supporting his government.
