White House : The Secret Service is determining who brought the white powder into the West Wing of the White House recently.
Last Sunday, officials discovered a zipped plastic bag containing a white powder in the heavily trafficked area of the White House. Lab tests conducted by the District of Columbia Fire Department confirmed that the powder was cocaine hydrochloride.
The Secret Service immediately evacuated the White House following this discovery. President Joe Biden was with his family at Camp David when the evacuation took place.
A press briefing said, “We have a yellow bar saying cocaine hydrochloride.”
The president was away
Initial reports from law enforcement authorities said the powder was found in a library. However, later reports said it was discovered in a lobby in the West Wing of the White House. The West Wing houses the Oval Office, the cabinet room, the living quarters of the president and his family and the press briefing room.
The lobby is where many official visitors and staffers enter. It is also open for various staff-led tours of the White House when the President is away.
CBS News, quoting White House officials, said the powder was found in a facility used to secure the phones of visitors and officials. The Secret Service said it discovered the substance in its routine patrols.
The Guardian says the first family including Hunter Biden, returned to the mansion on Tuesday. Hunter Biden has described his battle with drug addiction in a recent autobiography.
Political slugfest
Following the cocaine discovery, right-wing commentators sprung into action alleging that the substance belonged to Hunter Biden. Reacting to this, Chris Jackson, a longtime Democrat suggested that Biden “sues the hell out of everyone suggesting this.”
At the time of writing this article, no one had taken responsibility for the cocaine.
