Presidential Election: Former Brazilian President Luis Inacio Lula da Silva has raised the temperature by campaigning very hard ahead of the Oct 30 runoff election. His ardent supporters especially from North-Eastern Brazil are leaving no stone unturned for a grand victory of LULA.
Tens of thousands joined former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on the streets of Recife last Friday for another packed march in northeastern Brazil. This is the poorest region of Brazil. People here felt the real impact of Lula’s policies during his previous governments in the mid-2000s. He lifted millions out of poverty and invested in education and development projects across the region. They voted overwhelmingly for him in the first round. And they are hoping to carry him to the presidency on Oct. 30.
LULA the hope for Brazil
Supporters of former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva have been on the streets. ‘Lula’ is campaigning across the country in the run-up to and the weeks after the first round of Brazil’s presidential election. Recently he came home, to the state where he was born: Pernambuco, Where he was greeted with screams like ‘Lula!!! The hope of Brazil! …” He’s the father of the poor. He’s the president that Brazil deserves. No one else. He’s done so much for the poor”… “He brought us respect. Rights. Dignity. Education. Health and Food”.
First round goes heavily in favour of Lula
In the first round of Elections held in Northeastern Brazil on 2nd October, people voted in favour of Lula overwhelmingly. Analyst claim that Lula who garnered 67% votes for him and only 27% voted for his adversary far-right incumbent Jair Bolsonaro, is poised for a landslide victory.

Corruption during Bolsonaro’s regime has gone worse
Many experts say corruption has gone even worse under Bolsonaro, as the President now allocates billions of dollars through a secret budget so no one knows where the money’s going. Regardless, millions of Bolsonaro supporters up and down the country believe they’re better off. And the president is hoping they can lift him to power once again.
Common voters remark: Lula is for the poor. And Bolsonaro is for the rich. Lula always helped people. The prices of things were more reasonable. Everything’s gotten so expensive with Bolsonaro, and we’ve had enough. Lula again!
If he’s ultimately elected to return to the presidency, ‘Lula’ and his left-wing Workers’ Party will have to contend with a Brazilian Congress packed with Bolsonaro loyalists and other right-wing figures as the popular leftist attempts to implement his anti-poverty and climate agenda.
