Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Paris on Thursday (July 13) on a visit to France. This visit of PM Narendra Modi is taking place at a time when India-France is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the strategic partnership. At the same time, PM Modi will participate in the Bastille Day parade on Friday (July 14). The invitation to PM Modi for Bastille Day celebrations indicates the depth of Indo-French relations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Paris is focused on strengthening Indo-French ties in various fields including defense and space, infrastructure and culture. The visit coincides with the 25th anniversary of the India-France strategic partnership and the invitation to PM Modi for Bastille Day signals a new high in bilateral ties.
PM Modi visited the Senate, where he had extensive discussions with Senate President Jared Larcher. After the meeting, PM Modi tweeted, “It was a pleasure to meet the President of the Senate, Gerard Larcher. There was a fruitful exchange on ways to deepen Indo-French cooperation in various fields.”
He also held a separate delegation-level meeting with French Prime Minister Elizabeth Borne. PM Borne formally welcomed Prime Minister Modi at the airport on Thursday (July 13). The Prime Minister’s Office tweeted, “PM Narendra Modi had productive talks with PM Elizabeth Bourne in Paris. The leaders reviewed various aspects of the India-France partnership as well as discussed ways to further strengthen ties between the two countries.”
Addressing a program of Indian diaspora at La Seine Musicale in Paris on Thursday evening, PM Modi said, “A new world order is emerging… An arrangement where India will not let go of any opportunity.” Late in the night, he attended a private dinner organized at the residence of French President Emmanuel Macron.
Referring to the Unified Payments System (UPI), PM Modi, who attended an event for Indian expatriates, further said, “India and France have agreed to use UPI here. In the coming days, it will start from the Eiffel Tower, which means That Indian tourists will now be able to pay in rupees.” Significantly, UPI is the most successful payment system in India.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was awarded the highest French honor ‘Grand Cross of Legion of Honour’. PM Modi is the first Indian Prime Minister to receive the honour. Earlier, this honor has been given to former South African President Nelson Mandela, the then Prince of Wales, King Charles, former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, former United Nations Secretary-General Boutros Boutros Ghali.
