Doctors Day: PM Modi has thanked the doctor community for their selfless service on Doctor’s Day. He expressed his gratitude for the medical fraternity that spent thousands of hours saving patients during the pandemic.
Taking to Twitter, he wrote, “On Doctors Day, I express my deepest gratitude to the entire doctor community. Even amid the most unprecedented times, doctors have exemplified highest degree of courage, selflessness and resilience. Their dedication goes beyond healing; it gives our society hope and strength.”
What is Doctor’s Day?
Every year, Doctor’s Day is celebrated on July 1 in memory of Dr Bidhan Chandra Ray, an eminent doctor who became the first chief minister of Bengal. Dr Ray was also a freedom fighter, and his death anniversary falls on the same date.
Mr Modi also said that their (doctors’) dedication “goes much beyond healing and it gives our society hope and strength. “
Dr Roy received the Bharat Ratna in 1961 for his invaluable services.
According to the Indian Medical Association, nearly 1,800 doctors died during the pandemic. Quoting IMA figures, The Hindu says 757 doctors died in the first wave, 839 in the second wave and the rest later.
Indiatimes says 798 doctors lost their lives in the second wave of the pandemic.
Home Minister Amit Shah also lauded India’s doctors. His tweet said, “On Doctors Day my heartiest greetings to the doctors, who guard our health and wellbeing.Their unwavering commitment to serving humanity has made a whole lot of difference in our world and will continue to do so. Salute to the noble healers and lifesavers.”
CAs also felicitated
The prime minister also congratulated chartered accountants for their services.
Mr Modi tweeted, “On Chartered Accountants Day, we honour a professional community which is among our nation’s key financial architects. Their analytical acumen and steadfast commitment are crucial in strengthening our economy. Their expertise helps build a prosperous and self-reliant India.”
The governing body of the CAs, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in India was set up on July 1, 1949.
